The alien physiology is vivid: High Judge Orkin’s six pale eyes, the crystal-skinned judges in gravity thrones, the Veth’s stone-gray skin that fades almost white with age, the delicate light patterns beneath Civer’s skin. But the real biology is the Vor – translucent, carrying young in woven harnesses, fragile and hunted. Their physical vulnerability makes humanity’s choice to protect them hit harder.
